Elizabeth Johnson Harris
Appendix: Page Nine (back of p.5)

This is a poem that Harris wrote in memory of Annie Mae Collins

In Memory
Of Annie Mae Collins - Died June 9th, 1908

Augusta Issue [added by hand]

One year ago today
She took her flight away
To a home of rest, as God knew best,
It is not for us to say.

She left her parents dear,
Friends and schoolmates near-
This gentle child, so pure and mild.
In the brightest of the year.

The days pass by with hours,
The garden is filled with flowers,
And God knows best when to pluck them from their bed;
He sent away the messenger Death to take away this breath,
And let this body rest among the dead.

But she will rise again
Free and clear from sin,
To chant with angels in that home above.
While dreams and thoughts below are [following added by hand] with us as we go
But still we hold for her a Heart of Love.
