Opera/Ebony Performance of Highway 1 U.S.A.


Opera/Ebony Program The New York premiere of Still's Highway 1 U.S.A. This work had received its world premiere in Miami under the direction of Fabien Sevitzky in 1960 and a repeat performance at Morgan State in Baltimore, Maryland, conducted by Leon Thompson. This performance by Opera/Ebony--New York accomplished the organization's twofold goal, to provide performance opportunities for African American singers and conductors, and to perform the work of a African American composer.
