Parker, Charlie (Charles Christopher, Jr.) (1920--1955)

Jazz alto saxophonist, nicknamed "Bird" or "Yardbird." He was one of the key originators and leaders of the bebop style, which emphasized virtuosic technique, speed, complex harmonies, and small ensembles.
