My dear Sir,
I beg leave to bring to your notice the case of Mrs Thompson of Tenn
who was appointed by you to a clerkship in Treasy. Dept. 9. may but who has
been today notified that her services are no longer required. as related in my
interview with you on 1st may Mrs. Thompson's services in the national cause
were known to me during the period of my own command in E. Tenn. in the
war. they were

so important as to justify me in making an appeal in her behalf. She has a
family of young children & is without any means of support; now that she has
lost her office. I sincerely trust you will be able to restore her clerkship.
